Abstract
We have passed the two decade mark for the relational model, and it has been more than 15 years since the first relational prototypes and products.
I would like to share with you my views on where I believe DB technology is, and make some personal predictions about where, technically, DB systems will be in the year 2000.
What we know today is that many factors work together to shape database products. These include:
- Application requirements
- Platform capability and cost
- Demands of our customers' businesses
- I/0 device capability and cost
- Standards and architectures such as X/OPEN and IS0 SOL
