Abstract
An electronic delivery
system project managing all the technical
documentation related to the French telephone
switching network, is presented. It is shown
that several new techniques must be used to
implement and to access such a large database:
image acquisition and compression, optical
disks management, wide band networks and high
database efficiency. This paper focuses on the
database related problems, especially on the
very high performance required for such an
application. A commwercial (COPERNIQUE) database
machine and an intelligent disk help in
achieving this goal, and we describe their use.
